Grand Kick Off with Derek Munsun!

Students gathered in the lunch room at the start of school, excited that World Read Aloud Day is here and they would soon be moving through out the school listening to their book choices. Our celebration was kicked off with a Skype from Derek Munsun, author of Enemy Pie. While there were minor technical difficulties, the show went on with inspiring words, instructions for the day and questions from students.

Thanks Derek, we hope you join us again!

Let the Joy of Reading Begin!

After the kick-off, students returned to the classroom for instructions. They were given stickers to wear that listed all their book choices and locations. With three rotations, we had many volunteers on hand to help direct any one needing a little help!

With the rain coming down, students still enjoyed a school wide recess and snack in between rotations. After the final rotation, it was time to return to the classroom for more reading celebration.

Author Shelly Sleeper presents Shelby's Imagination Station

Students in grades 2nd - 4th gathered in the gym for a live author presentation from Shelly Sleeper. She shared her latest book, Shelby's Imagination Station. Kids were inspired to dream big!

Shelly handed out bookmarks and took time at the end of the day to autograph copies of her book.

Author Skypes into the Classrooms

Technology was fixed and authors from around the country Skyped into classrooms sharing their gifts of literacy. Students enjoyed short presentations and answers to their many questions.
